Abstract

           The objective of this research is 1) To study and analyze the physical characteristics and the process of producing lacquer ware in the northern region. 2) To study and analyze the cultural traditions related to the lacquer ware of the northern region. 3) To design tableware products from the study of northern lacquerware. This study is an integrated research, both qualitative and quantitative. This research is divided into 3 steps as follows: Step 1.) Data collection of lacquerware in the upper north, step 2.) An analysis of data for design, and Step 3.) Product design of tableware number 7. The results of the research are as follows: 1.) Study and analysis of image and production process of lacquerware in the upper northern region. The internal structure is fabricated using weaves and coils, made from hammered bamboo and turning using real wood coating and decorating bring rubber-hair and chad powder to get red color. The decorative pattern that is written on the northern northern lacquerware, the pattern used from the local area of each area 2.) Traditions and culture related to the northern northern lacquerware. There are 3 traditions. Khantok tradition which put food on the lacquerware (Khan Toke) to bring out a party in the wedding ceremony, will bring important items in the ceremonies in the lacquerware (new fabric chest, bowl) and various rituals using lacquerware to put the things in the ceremony. 3.) Product design on the tableware, including coasters, teacups, coasters, toothpick holders, vases and candles in the section. The colors, patterns and shapes that are designed will be more contemporary. Lacquerware, Upper North, there is an interesting production process by forming with natural materials that can be found locally and decorated with ancient Lanna motifs that are unique from the local area.
